The Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion & Public Life invited Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church, to discuss what are most important concerns today for evangelicals, and how the movement is evolving.

'What's wrong with organized religion?' That's the question that the dean of strategic management, Gary Hamel, put to America's largest churches. Claiming that religion needs a management reboot, his hypothesis was that the problem with organized religion isn't that it's too religious, but that it's too organized.

Chastised evangelicals end broadcaster's convention

Sober and pensive, the leaders of America's evangelical broadcasting elite ended five days of penance and soul-searching tonight (Feb 10th) at their huge annual convention held in Nashville, Tennessee. Although several speakers built a strong case for a return to the traditional focus on the gospel, it was obvious throughout the convention that Christian broadcasters are still struggling with a message and leadership for the future.

Up to 80 percent of Americans call themselves Christian, but their definition of the term varies widely. Now a new poll defines these categories as Active Christians, Professing Christians, Liturgical Christians, Private Christians, and Cultural Christians. 
Vulnerable Mission: You mean what?

'You mean what?' I asked over breakfast, as Jim Harries explained the principles of Vulnerable Mission. 'I agree with the principle of local language, but why should Western missionaries avoid using outside money to sustain ministry activities?' Here are some reflections I have on this emphasis, in connection to more powerful forces, such as Business as Mission, Social Entrepreneurship and Holistic Mission.

Dr. Robert Duncan, president of Bacone College in Muskogee, OK, hosted a 3-day leadership summit, Sept 25-27, on Christian Futuring & Planning for church growth consultants, pastors and ministry majors. Duncan, the author of 'Trajectory', studied under Leonard Sweet at Drew, and also now teaches with them in the MDiv program. Jay Gary addressed the consultation on 'Framing Christian Futuring.'
